Welcome to this week’s edition of The Small Business Corner newsletter!
Bryan Magee (1930 - 2019) was a philosopher, broadcaster, politician, and writer.
In order to pursue his wide-ranging interests, he decided he did not want a traditional career.
"A question I had to face immediately was that of earning my living. And here I ran up against a problem. I did not want a career in the normal sense at all."
To solve the money problem, he decided to create a portfolio of small bets, diversifying his income.
He made enough money doing part-time teaching and working in television and dedicated six months to writing and politics.
With time, it dawned on him that all he wanted was to be making enough so as to enjoy life in London, buy a lot of books, attend concerts, and travel abroad.
"And it was essential for me to combine these activities with devoting most of my time to work of my own choosing."
Magee was able to do that before the internet. In the digital age, the opportunities are endless to pursue your interests and start a thriving business, diversifying your income streams.
“When you focus on solving problems or on making a difference, passion may follow, because you’re actually involved in the work you’re doing instead of just dreaming that you might be passionate about something.”

In 1999, Bressler transitioned from the corporate world to follow his love for the outdoors. This shift marked the beginning of a new era for him with his profound knowledge of plant life and a commitment to sustainable beauty. Bressler and his team ensure that each project they take on enhances the lives of their clients, and Nature's Friends has, in turn, become synonymous with exceptional quality and unwavering reliability.
